BAN MEATA - HOME FOR HIV/AIDS CHILDREN

KHON Kaen

LOVE MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE AND HEART OF A CHILD

THE NAME "BAN MEATA" LITERALLY MEANS:"A MERCY FILLED HOUSE OR VILLAGE"

Mercy International / House of Mercy Foundation is committed to assist and care for children in Thailand with the HIV + virus. Ban Meata Khon Kaen is home to forty HIV+ children and teenagers. They have found provision, protection, support and acceptance in a loving, caring environment. These children now have a hope for a long and healthy future because of this program and the goodness of God.

Ban Meata is located in the heart of Khon Kaen, Thailand’s fourth largest city and one of the country’s worst AIDS affected districts.

Plans have been drawn to extend the premises and make room for the growing number of HIV/AIDS children. With the expanded facilities we plan to give hope and a future to more than double our current number of HIV+ children.

Kaanit

Kaanit came to Ban Meata Khon Kaen in September 2006, weighing just 15 kilos and suffering debilitating opportunistic complications such as liver and pancreatic disease, anaemia, body wasting, active TB and listlessness. He had spent five months in a regional hospital and was referred to Ban Meata by a paediatric specialist when his paraplegic father was unable to attend to his needs. His mother and younger brother had died with HIV related complications before Kaanit reached 5 years of age and he missed most of his foundation years of school. A long steady process of consistent medical care, support and love has resulted in Kaanit’s transformation into a power-house of faith and energy. He now weighs 36 kilos, well within normal limits for his age and height ratio. Kaanit’s passion and drive is evident as he

now studiously completing his second year of high school and has a dream to attend technical college.
